Drag every figure into shadow, then switch on the lights and find out if you read the room right.
The shadows come from the real walls and lamps in each room, so a figure is only safe if no light reaches it at all, including from a lamp that moves. On most levels you can't see the shadows while you place, and a failed attempt tells you nothing. You have to work out where the light will fall.
